About Sarah

Sarah used to be a public school junior high science teacher, but recently God has moved her to an even more exciting opportunity working at a residential treatment center for teenage boys. They use triathlon training as therapy for the boys, and she has many opportunities to share her faith in truth and love. She truly believes every step of her triathlon journey has been directed by the Lord- including the financial provision to make it happen—so she is simply following Him in obedience and trusting He will continue to provide for her to compete in the sport as long as He sees fit.

In addition to a job that is a ministry in itself, Sarah has found time to raise money for AIA by completing in a grueling 206-mile bike race, organize a campaign at the junior high she taught at to raise money for clean water systems, prepare meals and baked goods for community members in need, volunteer with her students for Kids Against Hunger, pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, and volunteer at several local triathlons and race events

A Word from Sarah

My heart’s desire is to see athletes freed from the bondage of performance defining their worth (and lives) and experience the freedom in Jesus defining their worth. I use every race and training session as an opportunity to share who Jesus is, and to be a part of a larger group who pursues the same goal. I can honestly say that my own life mission is to share the gospel with athletes through words, actions, and allowing God to use both my good and bad performances to help achieve that. I am passionate about testimony training and would love to aid in that capacity with Tri4Him members. I will pray for the ministry and athletes who race for Tri4Him. I am a Christian who happens to be a triathlete…not a triathlete who happens to be a Christian. To Him be the glory!

Professional Triathlete - Full Iron PR 8:50 / Half Iron PR 3:53

"I feel I have the tools to be very competitive, and as I learn more about training, mechanics, and my own strengths and weaknesses, I am getting closer and closer to achieving some great results."

I have had a few coaches over the years, but was self-coached for most of 2009, all of 2010, and all of 2011. I knew I was interested in working with a coach beginning 2012, but wanted to make sure of the fit before moving ahead. Upon being accepted to the Tri4Him Elite Team, and following several phone visits with [Coach Boo], it was obvious we were VERY like-minded and that his coaching style and methodology would serve me well.

With a family, and coaching athletes, I have a difficult time finding 30+ hours to train each week. As a self-coached athlete, I also struggle with disciplining myself while training -- basically going hard enough when it's time to go hard, going easy enough when it's time to go easy, and stopping training sessions before major fatigue sets in, especially when training for long course. With a coach and a plan, I don't feel the need to swim/bike/run farther and/or faster. Just do the work, recover well, and repeat. Get super tired? Then take a day off and jump back on the track.

[Coach Boo] developed the TriDot System, a unique way of measuring training intensities. In addition, he has developed a very smart and effective way of measuring weekly training workloads, basically the stress applied during a week's worth of training. Simply put, workload = intensity x duration. Essentially, you can work up to a long-course worthy workload, without putting in big volume. For example, on just ~20 hours a week, I have a sustained, weekly training load that exceeds many of my 25-30 hour training weeks I put myself through as a self-coached, long course athlete over the past few years.

I'm doing quality (z3 - z5 intensity) 6 days a week spread over 8-10 training sessions (out of 15 total sessions).

Each week, we ratchet up the workload bit by bit, without adding big volume numbers.

The Result?

Time Trial performances on par with my career bests, and it's only January!

Compared to 2011 season Peak fitnesses within each discipline:

Swimming threshold pace 4 sec/100 yards faster
Bike threshold equal to 2011 season best
Run threshold pace 20 sec/mile faster

Thanks to Coach Boo and Tri4Him [TriDot System] for the guidance thus far. Here's to an amazing 2012 season!

If you're looking for simple, yet solid science behind your training program, getting a very high return on your training-time investment, and top-notch guidance along the way, consider working with a Tri4Him coach. I am thrilled to be a part of such a talented coaching staff!

About Kevin

Kevin has been married for 19 years and has two children (12 and 8). He has been competing in triathlons since 2003, was a member of the original Tri4Him group back then, and is now the Group Leader for the Rockwall Tri4Him team, which has 30+ active members. He is also plugged into his community through leading a local Adopt-A-Hwy program, with quarterly clean-up events in Rockwall, as well as participating in the YMCA Adventure Guides Program as group Navigator. As a member of his church for 7+ years, he is also actively involved in a Life Group (small group) and is a substitute teacher for the LG class. He has set a goal of completing his first half iron triathlon in 2012, and would like to pursue his Level 1 coaching certification in the near future.

A Word from Kevin

Jesus Christ is my life coach, providing me daily encouragement, guidance, and instruction for my spiritual walk. I place my faith and trust in Him for directing my words, decisions, and actions in every aspect of my life. Jesus is the “perfect standard” for demonstrating grace and mercy to others, especially those who need it most! My goal as an AGEs member is to encourage other members to pursue excellence in the sport, while giving God the glory for my accomplishments.
